We're getting close now - just a week from Sunday and we're on the trail! A couple of parents had checked out the sample map I posted below and had asked for more information on where exactly their child would be hiking.
Here's how to figure it out. In the downloads section to the right you'll find the group list. Click that link to find out which group your child is in. (No last names listed for internet safety) Once you know the name of your child's group you can click the link on the Route Maps section to the right. Right click (or control click on a mac) to download the picture.
Each route has the drop off point and pick up point listed along with planned camp sites. The trail of course is highlighted in yellow. Of course all of these plans are completely negotiable once the group hits the trail. Weather, trail conditions and strengths / weaknesses of the group can play into hiking faster, slower or completely modifying their routes.
The freedom for instructors to modify their routes is an important safety consideration. Hiking to an external schedule or timeline can result in pushing to far too fast rather than doing what is right for the group. If a group does modify their route they will let me know by calling in on their satelite phone.
