I thought I would give you a sense of what that view must have been like by sharing the reverse view. The Mt. Washington Observatory has a web cam looking back west toward Franconia Notch.

In this picture you can see the Franconia Ridge where Brummer's group was standing yesterday in the far back left side of the picture. In fact you can just make out Mt. Flume on the ridge, it's the distinct pointy summit kind of in the middle. It looks cloudy up there today, but the ceiling is pretty high up so the summit views are all open.
They mention on their website that the summit of Mt. Washington is obscured by clouds 60% of the time. Lucky for us the views this trip (after Sunday) have been in the other 40% of the time!
